As a business owner, I know this can be tough news. You started your own business and have reached a good level of success. You’ve learned a great deal and have been successful in bringing your vision to life.
And yet the truth is that we can only do so much on our own. What helped you reach this point won’t be enough to take you to the next level.
Whether it’s delegating some tasks or simplifying your to-do list, something will need to change to allow you the time and creative space needed to take your business to the next level.
You need clarity around your priorities and next steps when feeling stuck in your business.
As a business owner, it’s likely that you’re a bit of a visionary. Ideas come to you easily and frequently, and your excitement for the difference they’ll make leads you to want to bring each idea to life as quickly as possible.
And although innovation will propel your business to a new level, it’s also going to require a bit of focus and commitment on your part.
You can do many things, just not all at once.
Moving forward and taking your business to the next level will require you to be incredibly clear on your vision, what matters most to you, and what you need to focus on in order to make this vision a reality.
If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, it might in part stem from trying to bring too many ideas to fruition at once.
What if you were to focus on one big idea for the next 90 days? Do you know what it would be like? Do you know what it would take to make this one idea happen? How would it feel to let go of the rest (you can always come back to other ideas later) and put everything into this one idea?
You’re reluctant to hire support because no one will do things exactly like you.
Often, the easiest way to move your business forward is to hire support. And yet, it’s likely that you’ll stay in this place of overwhelm and neverending to-do lists unless you can take a few things off your plate.
One of the most common reasons why business owners tell me they aren’t ready to hire support. Is that no one else will do everything exactly like they will.
On the surface, this is true. You’re unique and your business is unique. Even the most skilled assistant is unlikely to do everything exactly as you would in your business.
However, with a bit of training, a skilled support team can follow your lead and make sure everything is done to your liking within your business. In fact, as behind-the-scenes tasks are what they do, it’s possible that they will know of or create ways to run your business even more smoothly or efficiently.
Plus, even though you can do these tasks, is that how you want to spend your time and energy? What could you do with the time you’d gain by handing over some of the daily business tasks to a team member? What impact could this make for your business? How might this allow you to serve more clients or in a deeper way?
You’re waiting to hire support until you make more income.
I hear this all the time and again, on the surface it makes sense. After all, you want to reach a certain income level and feel secure in hiring on support once you reach that level.
However, what if you could reach a higher income level faster, by hiring on support first?
Stay with me for a minute…
If you wait to hire support, that means you’ll have a longer period of time where you’re doing everything yourself. Any time spent on tasks within your business takes time away from connecting with potential clients or serving current clients.
Whereas if you hire support now, you can start handing over some of those tasks that need to be done, but not necessarily by you. This frees up more of your time each day to serve clients, connect with potential clients, and work on some of those big ideas you’ve been dreaming of.
You now have more time, energy, and creative space to move your business forward.
And remember that you can always start small. You’ll likely be amazed by the difference having support can make in your business, even if it’s just for a couple of hours each week.
It’s time to stop feeling stuck in your business, to leap before you feel ready.

The truth is that growth is always going to feel uncomfortable. It’s always a bit scary to do something you’ve never done before. And most likely, you’ll never feel fully “ready” to hire on support.
Think back to when you first started your business. Were you free from fear then? Did you feel completely ready to begin?
My guess would be that you didn’t, but you took the leap because your vision was too compelling to ignore. And just look at you now. Look at the success you’ve created. The people you’ve served. The difference you’ve made, and all because you decided to take that initial leap.
Deep down, you know you’re ready to take your business to the next level. It’s okay if you don’t feel ready, you’ve never done this before.
For now, focus on all the good you can do by moving forward and serving in a bigger way.
